the startup Occipital has recently unveiled the most highly anticipated gadgets of the year, the Structure Sensor, is a tiny, portable 3D scanner that snaps into your fourth generation iPads, iPad Air and iPand mini..

How It Works

The 3D scanner Structure Sensor is a little similar to Microsoft Kinect, but it is portable and it can be attached to your tablet, it contains two infrared LEDs and a camera that will make you see the depth of the reality through your screen, it means that you can create a 3D model of your house, and also play augmented reality games inside your living room and using your furniture, you can even 3D scan your family members !

The Structure Sensor contains its own battery and it is rechargeable using a USB cable that connect to your iPad. After putting the sensor on the iPad, you should carefully scan the objects you want with the right speed and position, and this is assured with a dedicated scanning software, the Skanectalso and independent App,  ItSeez3D is developed by a Russian startup that’s been working on computer vision since 2005.




This gadgets can help improving games in the augmented reality world, it can be a great tool to improve the 3D printing and scanning, you could someday print a 3D model of yourself...
The company Occipital thinks that people might use it for body scanning to help fitness Apps track your body performance, also in video games, you could make a 3D scan of yourself and enter to the action of the game...

The Structure Sensor is not yet available in the markets, but the communicated price is a little high, it is almost the same price of an XBox, $399 or $499 with Occipital Skanect 3D software.


BMW Protecting Its Factory Workers With A 3D Printed Thumb




3D printing is making a huge development around the world, it has proven that it is a great way to provide accurate design and useful products for consumers.
The giant German car manufacturer BMW has recently though about exploiting the 3D printing technology, but not to sell products for consumers, BMW wanted to protect its factory workers who have to make repetitive tasks that requires using their hands, specially their thumbs.

Factory workers in BMW, specially Vehicle Assembly plant workers are always using their thumbs to make assembly line tasks that requires strength and pressure, which
always cause strain on the thumb joints and leave a pain in the worker's thumb.

The solution that BMW came out with is to print 3D custom plastic thumbs depending on the workers hand size , they are printed individually by scanning each worker's hand in a mobile hand scanner. The orthotic is designed to be flexible when wearing and using it, it will fold and move like a normal thumb to make the assembly worker comfortable and enjoying the work without pain and fear of strains.

To make this product in alliance with the Department of Ergonomics at the Technical University of Munich, BMW used a combine of hard plastic and soft silicone called thermoplastic polyurethane.


A little improvement in the way of working, but a big positive results can occur specially with the positive feedback of BMW's assembly line workers that likes this idea and found it helpful to them.


The First Synthetic Blood Vessels Successfully Created Using 3D Bioprinting Techniques


Using 3D bioprinting techniques, Scientists in Boston have created the first artificial synthetic blood vessels. 
Boston's researchers said that they have first of all created the mold of the vessels using a fiber template from a naturally derived sugar based molecule called agarose. After that, the mold was contained in a substance like gelatin called hydrogel to create the synthetic blood vessels.

Ali Khademhosseini, the lead researcher on the project said: "Engineers have made incredible strides in making complex artificial tissues such as those of the heart, liver and lungs,”

The nature of blood vessels is extremely delicate, and the difficult part was getting the synthetic vessel's makeup.

To perform the main functions of the blood vessels, the inner walls of the vessels are bordered with endothelium, which is created from endothelial cells.
The endothelial cells performs the following functions: trafficking hormones, filtering fluids, hemostatis, and more...

Although this great creation, the transplantation of this blood vessels in humans organs still years away from reality, Ali Khademhosseini said: "We're far away from humans, but I think the technology would be translatable."


A 3D Smartphone from Amazon !




Amazon is also entering the world of smartphones by the expected launch of their new device having the same name "Amazon", but, can they resist between giants of smartphones, Samsung, Apple, HTC and others..
They have to come up with a new thing, and that's what is going to happen
according to the Wall-street magazine.

The photo presented is a leak out of Amazon next smartphone, it looks a little like the Nexus 5, but the big change is that this smartphone is going to 
have a 3D screen! a real innovation that can make a difference.
Users could watch 3D videos or movies without wearing the 3D glasses.

According to rumors, the Amazon smartphone could have a 4.7 inch screen with a resolution of 760p and Quadcore Snapdragon processor.

Also it could be equipped with 6 cameras !, 4 of them in the front to capture the user movements and provide the 3D vision.

The Amazon smartphone could be presented in June and a number of 600.000 units could be produced.
