Along with Hangouts, Google has released the Messenger App, a standalone App for messaging that comes with the new material design. The Messenger App is used for SMS and MMS phone messaging, also, you can use it to send videos and voice messages.
The App is very fluid to use, very beautiful with the material design, it comes pre-installed on Android Lollipop, but now, the App is also available on the Google Play Store for Android 4.1 or higher, you can get it from here !
